ABS stands for acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer, and is a synthetic terpolymer.
This plastic, which is made up of three monomer types, is classed as an amorphous thermoplastic. ABS plastic is manufactured either through branching in industrial-scale processes, or through blending the finished polymers. ABS is characterised by its strong surface hardness and impact resistance, and can be easily coated with metals and polymers. Product designers such as De Pas, D´Urbino, Lomazzi, Philippe Starck, Anna Castelli Ferrieri, and Isao Hosoe used ABS for their work.
